Abstract

Education, in Brazil, is part of a set of social rights that legitimizes citizenship in the country based on the guarantee of well-being and appearing as the direct responsibility of the State and the family to provide it. In this scenario, it is possible to understand that all Brazilians are entitled to access education, without distinction. Therefore, in the construction of an effective Distance Education and the implementation of Information and Communication Digital Technologies in the daily teaching-learning processes, it is important to think about the access of people with disabilities. Thus, the objectives of this study are to describe the process of developing a digital book with accessibility criteria and its implementation in self-instructional courses for health professionals and discuss the process of improving the educational resources applied in DE and its potential in the democratization of education. For this, the present study carried out methodological steps that contemplated the study of accessibility aspects, computational feasibility analysis, development and evaluation of the new version of the Digital Book 3.0. It was possible to implement in the Digital Book 3.0, already used in self-instructional courses in the health area, resources that contributed to the accessibility of people with visual impairment, such as: a proprietary screen reader with 7 (seven) speeds, high contrast and audio description validated by a multidisciplinary team and a digital accessibility specialist. These results allowed us to understand that it is essential to plan accessibility resources from the initial stages of self-instructional courses, contributing to people with disabilities being considered as a target audience and, therefore, democratizing access to health education.
