Abstract

TeleHans is a project of the Ministry of Health and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) developed through actions carried out by the Telehealth Centers of Bahia, Amazonas and Santa Catarina. The objective of this study was to report the creation and implementation of TeleHans activities as a strategy to support primary health care teams in the early diagnosis of leprosy in order to strengthen Health Surveillance actions in the northern region of Brazil. This is an experience report on carrying out activities aimed at the early diagnosis of leprosy through telemedicine in the states of Acre, Amazonas, Roraima and Rondônia. The training activity was carried out for the professionals of the family health team and the content was divided into 4 modules carried out in the distance learning modality. The number of participating professionals was 753 in Rondônia, 160 in Roraima and 969 in Amazonas, most of which were: Doctor, Nurse and Community Health Agents. Four Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were also prepared in order to systematize the conduct to be followed among the professionals participating in the project. The topics dealt with leprosy reactions; Disability prevention; Investigation of leprosy index case contacts; and Screening of leprosy cases. Two types of teleconsultation by text and video were offered to health professionals. From January to June 2022, 70 teleconsultations were carried out, these only in the state of Amazonas, and the main medical diagnoses of teleconsultants were: pityriasis versicolor; eczema; carcinoma; herpes; psoriasis; pyoderma; alopecia; dermatitis; scabies, among others in little occurrence. The TeleHans project has contributed significantly to the continuing education program for health professionals and leprosy control.
