ABSTRACT - Discussions about the condom use and AIDS/STD begun in the 80's with the discovery of AIDS and it is still current nowadays. This research aims to investigate the use of preservative in seven heterosexual men, in a range of 21 to 31 years old, residing in Ribeirão Preto-SP. The information presented somehow coincide with the data presented in the current literature, which leads us to conclude that in casual sexual relations or extra relationship, the participants believe to be consistent the use of condoms when the woman request it, therefore, this request can be understood as distrust in some relationships. There is also general consensus that the notion of responsibility and security, must be mutual; between the couple. According to respondents, AIDS/STD can be transmitted through sex act without a condom, thus demonstrating that they are aware of such risks, but some participants in the affectively trusting a steady partner, stop and report that using a condom can cause nuisance and decrease the sensitivity. Such information may indicate that the disease  prevention campaigns of the Ministry of Health does not satisfactorily show the population the concept of risk attitude, because it was found that some respondents believe the risk group of disease transmission. Thus, it becomes necessary in this sense an effective campaign to raise awareness about the risks of AIDS/STD represent.
